Safeguarding – What we do at Mowbray

Safeguarding is the term used to describe protecting a child or young person's health, wellbeing and human rights.  Keeping children safe from harm is a shared responsibility.  Each year at Mowbray we have trained education facilitators come and present age-appropriate programs to our students.

Our Early Childhood students view Bravehearts - Ditto’s Keep Safe Adventure Show.  This is about personal safety, safe and unsafe feelings, and body ownership.  The show also reinforces that there is no secret that a child cannot tell someone.

All Mowbray students K-6 participate in The Growing Up Program, facilitated by Family Planning Tasmania.  This program aligns with the Australian Curriculum and the content delivered to students is age appropriate.  Key focus areas include respectful relationships, how to recognise warning signs in uncomfortable or unsafe situations and how to seek help when needed.

As a school and we also promote online safety. Our Year 5-6 students have explored some modules from the Alannah and Madeline Foundation, eSmart Digital Licence+. Year 3-4 students completed a series of lessons using resources from the eSafety 'Mighty Heroes' resources.

We are aware that students’ online experiences often move seamlessly between school and home.  To safeguard our students online, we will be sharing information, tips and resources for parents and carers from the eSafety Commissioner over coming weeks.  We hope this will help families build their knowledge, skills and understanding of online safety.
